Sleeping Soundly - Shaded

I have this terrible habit of not being consistent throughout a single piece. I'm sure it's not hard to guess what part of the dragon I started my shading at: it's smoother and darker. I always start to rush near the end, and it definitely shows.

I tried to tackle both shading and anatomy in this. I think I've learned a bit about doing shading, but I am not a whole lot better at it yet. At least now I trust myself enough to do a better job in future drawings. Perhaps on a steeper gradient, though; it was a pain to draw this so smoothly. The areas verging on black had to be drawn over at least 20 times, if not quite a few more before they actually got that dark! XD

As for anatomy, well... I need more practice. Let's just leave it at that.

I'm a little surprised with how quickly I did this. I mean, I'll be honest, a month is not that fast. But I did the vast majority of this drawing over the past week. *OrmIrian mentioned a little while ago that she would play DVDs in the background while she worked on her drawings, and I took that idea and ran with it. So, instead of listing what song I listened to while drawing, let me tell you the movies I heard (since I know you care so much ):

That Thing You Do

Once per night, a few hours every time, and it all probably adds up to 20 or more hours of drawing (not to mention the lost time due to watching the movie instead of listening to it ).

I want to color this. It shouldn't take long at all, so I'll probably have a colored version up tomorrow. Just need to decide what color to make this dragon, and a name. Deciding whether it's male or female would be nice, too.
